O Mundo das Sombras is incorporated in this blog

In order to organize all the materials of my research I decided today to incorporate in this blog posts previously published in another blog I created in the year 2005, which covers the same topic, but written in Portuguese, named O Mundo das Sombras. See it here. From now on the posts will be written in both languages.

The Lisbon Route

I bought it two weeks ago. No time to read it fully. It is not a book about MI9 ways of escape. It's a portrait of the «transformation of Portugal's tranquil port city into the great escape hatch of Nazi Europe. The author, Ronald Weber, is professor emeritus of American studies at the University of Notre Dame.
More than a vivid report about the "spy's nest" that Portugal became, it's an academic work written as a fiction book, appealing the reader, in a way it's a primary source book about major events occurred in this country during WW2 concerning secret war in the frame of our neutrality.

"Legião Portuguesa" and anti-nazi action!

Will be published in May my revised account about SOE activities in Portugal. The first edition was printed under the tittle "Traição a Salazar". The story line is about the role of "Legião Portuguesa" [LP] in the abortion of John Beevor's secret networks for clandestine and subversive guerrillas: in contradiction with its line of supporting left wing groups capable of direct action and black propaganda, SOE policy in this country involved contacts with that anti-communist armed militia of the Regime and that was reported by the PVDE, secret political police directed by Agostinho Lourenço. That was approved by the Foreign Office. Eurico Ribeiro Casais, LP man was mentioned in SOE telegrams I quote as «our friend».
